21 Sep Louisville Slugger Warriors- Competing at Mountain Games
Mountain Games will soon be here and now is the perfect time to get your team geared up and ready for the event.
This event is reaching far outside just our region bringing in national teams to claim the title. Back for the second year “The Louisville Slugger Warriors” will be ready on September 23rd to make their run at claiming the title of Mountain Team.
The Louisville Slugger Warriors is a national acclaimed slow pitch softball team featuring Military Veterans and Active Duty personnel who have suffered service-connected physical and invisible wounds. Their drive and passion to push themselves to the limits of their personal physical and mental endurance makes them fantastic competitors in Mountain Games and the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation is excited to have them involved.
“We are honored to have these heros competing in Mountain Games, ” said Velma Workman, Development Outreach Coordinator for the Cabell Huntington Hospital Foundation. “Please come out and cheer them on as they compete and enjoy a great day full of fun for the whole family,” said Workman.
This year 6 team members will be on-site participating in Saturday’s event and have a local connection with the current Head Coach of the Louisville Slugger Warriors being born and raised in Huntington. MSgt Gary “G” LaFon served in the US Air Force from 1996-2017 and in 2016 became head coach of the Warriors after competing competitively with the team and other military tournaments for many years.
One competitor, Lonnie Gaudet resides in Purdin, MO and suffered an injury leading to an amputation below the knee.
“I love pushing my limits and what better way to do it than by playing in competitive tournaments around the country,” said Gaudet.
Mountain Games is honored to have these noble competitors as part of the event and please come out and support them during the competition and thank them for their sacrifice and service to our country.
